County committee elections for 2010 will be scheduled as follows:

 

November 5 - Ballots mailed to eligible voters.

December 6 - Last day to return voted ballots to the local FSA office.

January 1 - Elected committee members and alternates take office.

09/10 - Tickets are being sold at the Hamburg Administration building for the Crossett/Hamburg football game this Friday. Tickets are $5 each. The admin building is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

09/14 - Ashley County Medical Center would like to invite you to the 12th Annual event of the Ashley County Health Foundation. The evening begins on Tuesday, September 14 at 6:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Crossett Multi-Ministry Center. This event will include a steak dinner, entertainment, a silent and live auction. Doors will open at 5:30 pm to begin the silent auction. We encourage everyone to come out and have fun with us! Tickets are $20.00 and may be purchased by calling 364-1271. 09/16 - Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansasl, Inc. will have Certified Volunteer Ombudsman classroom training on September 16, 2010. Volunteer Ombudsman is the eyes and ears for residents in nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. 09/18 - Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge invites the community to come and explore the Refuge’s unique recreation opportunities while enjoying a family-friendly atmosphere during its first Fall Festival in celebration of the outdoors, on Saturday, September 18, 2010,

Complete with exhibitors, music, food, and fun, this festival will focus on a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities and provide hands-on activities to engage youth and their families to get outside and get connected with nature.  While hunting and fishing remain the most popular pastimes within the refuge, we would like to offer people from all walks of life a chance to enjoy other interests such as archery, rock wall climbing, wild game calls, casting, dutch oven cooking, canoeing, gardening, retriever demonstrations and more. Free admissions for all and on-site parking available.

The festival will take place at the Refuge Visitor Center on Highway 82 West in Crossett, AR. Festivities will kick off at 9:00 am and will conclude at 3:00 pm. The festival will showcase exhibitors such as Arkansas Canoe Club, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Girl Scouts, Southeast Arkansas Beekeepers Association, The Sierra Club, The Christian Motorcycle Association, Ouachita Waterdogs Inc. and many more. There will be several prize drawings provided by Pruitt Taxidermy including two $100 gift cards to Simmons’ Sporting Goods and Sport About. 09/21 - Free prostate cancer screenings with be held on Tuesday, September 21, from 3 - 7 p.m. at Ashley County Medical Center outpatient clinic. This free screening includes an exam and a PSA. No appointment is necesssary. For more information, contact Brigitte Bondio at 870.364.1427.

09/28 - New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and the U of A Division of Agriculture are sponsoring a 12 week weight-loss challenge competition program. An informational meeting and weigh-in will be held in the B. J. Jackson Multi-Purpose Building on Tuesday, September 28 at 5 p.m. Anyone interested in losing weight the healthy way is invited to participate. 10/01 - Submissions are being sought for Between the Lines, the literary magazine of South Arkansas Community College. Stories, poetry and essays submitted by writers 18 years and older who live in the college’s service area of Ashley, Bradley, Chicot and Union Counties, as well as Calhoun County, and Union, Claiborne and Webster Parishes in Louisiana, are encouraged to participate.Manuscripts are due by Oct. 1 by e-mail to Scott Larkin at slarkin@southark.edu.
